Memories

Recently, Carol at May Dreams Gardens, and Annie at the Transplantable Rose, did some posts about the Ant, the Bee, and the Butterfly.

It's a great analogy for life, don't you think?

I tend to be an ant. I am focused when I have a task to complete. I'm ALWAYS on time. ALWAYS! No shoes on your feet? No problem. Wear the ones in the car (we keep extras there for the times when "I can't find my shoes!")

Gotta get school done? I'm the ant.

Gotta get the house clean? Well...ummm...I'll admit...in this case I'm a butterfly. I kind of flit around from here to there, not really getting much done, easily distracted. Occasionally I may go into a bee mode and accomplish some things along the way, but household chores are not my thing.....

But I think in life, it's good to be a combination of all of the above, don't you think?

If I had stuck to my ant like qualities while doing school one day awhile (long while) back, I wouldn't have answered the phone call from my friend Donna, who suggested we drop school for the day, and instead run downtown to gawk at the Star Wars conventioneers.

What a marvelous idea!

We had a great memory-making day. I'll never forget that look on my 3 year old's face when we turned a corner and ran straight into an army of storm troopers. It was wonderful! That was BC (before camera), so you'll just have to take my word for it.

This is the world's number one Star Wars Fan. Our friend Luke. We've made many memories with Luke over the six years we've known him.

This is his big sister, Hannah.

She's becoming a beautiful young woman right before our eyes.

And Baby Brother Drew.

Their beautiful mother is holding him, but she very nicely (through gritted teeth)asked me not to post a picture of her. However, you can go to her hubby's blog, here, and see a picture if you like. (That's not cheating, is it?)

We've made many wonderful memories with our friends over the years. A lot of those memories were made because we morphed from the ant to the bee. I've learned it is OK to pick up the phone when it rings and say "yes" when a friend calls and throws you an invitation that totally takes you off the ant trail. A routine day can turn into a memory-for-a-life-time day in a moment's notice. That's one of the reasons we homeschool. To share life and experiences with our children as God throws the opportunity our way. To make memories that will last a lifetime.

Thank you to all of our friends and family who have thrown many memories our way over the years.

I am in ant in my barn and with my horses.

I am an ant with my laundry.

I am a bee with my house cleaning.

I am a butterfly with though with a lot of things. Like jumper cables... I know enough (like how to open the clamps and shut them...) to get me into BIG trouble!

P.S. I homeschooled my son for one year. I actually LOVED that part of it. It was having 1 & 2 year old daughters that needed attention too that made me give it up. Now, I homeschool every day at 3:30....

I LOVE this post! :) Plus I can call myself a butterfly when I'm not accomplishing anything. I like that....

I used to be an ant. I wish I could see more of that around here! Smooch.

I don't know what I am now. Many decades ago I think I was a ????. I would get my kids off to school, (they fixed their own breakfast) then I would do the necessary housework, all the while thinking how to get out of fixing dinner (did I mention I don't like to cook). One reason for that is "what would you kids like for dinner?" "I don't care" - then, "yuck, I don't want this, can I fix a pb &j for myself?". That sucked out any creative juices I ever had. After the kids were grown & gone, if I wanted to eat out all I had to do was announce that I would make stew. Then my hubby would suggest we eat out. See, tho I loved beef stew, he hated it, which I already knew. As far as I know he never caught on. Rather devious, isn't it? (Baaaad wife, lol)

I would think you would have to be an ant to homeschool. I admire people that can do this. I am too much of a bee to do this task. Thankfully my children are grown and I don't have to worry about such things.

I just love it when a friend calls me at the last mintue and asks do you want to...? I usually say yes. Life is short.

You cannot POSSIBLY read all the blogs in your list, can you? When do you sleep? And now that you have my long-winded pontificating blog on your list, I KNOW you can't keep up with all of them...can you? You are a reading and blogging MACHINE!!

I love that my friend called me and asked to ride along to Kohl's with me the other night...you can do that to me any ol' time! We had a nice (yet short) time with you two girls.
On the other hand, where WERE you last night? Is everyone OK? How is Prince Charming's back?
Ok, just checking in...hope you all are ok...

Between the gardening sister's blogs, your blog and Eleanor's comments, I'm getting an ever clearer and more vivid image of your lively extended family, Sherry....and how you and Carol are mostly ants and sometimes bees while your mom tried hard to have some butterfly moments!

Some of the coolest things in our memories came from saying yes to the unexpected - but we haven't run into a Star Wars Convention yet.

The blogosphere was missing something before you joined in, I think.
