Bye, Bye Little Birdies

Do you ever watch the birds and wonder who they are? Not just what type of bird, but where have they been? Where were they hatched? What brings them to this cove, to roost on these posts? Where will they go tomorrow? Whose post will they be sitting on then?

What are they thinking? Why did this one bird choose to fly away?
Bye, Bye Birdie....

What are they thinking about....Father and son, walking on the beach. Memories of the past? Hopes for the future? Looking for the treasures of today?

Look at them. 3 grown up. 2 already wives and mothers. A 3rd taking that life-long commitment, a 4th still growing up and dreaming of her Prince Charming someday. But, today is A4's day. She was a beautiful bride.

She lives so far from us.

Birds usually come home to the places they were hatched to raise their families, don't they? Why don't children do that?

We are so happy for them, but there is also a sadness in knowing that we are not a part of their day-to-day lives. The distance prohibits it, but we will see them as often as we can.

Sam especially finds it hard to say good-bye to his sister. He knows it will be awhile before he sees her again. He is old enough to know that life goes on and there is a lot you want to share with those you love, but distance is so cruel and prohibitive.

Next time he sees his sister, he'll be taller than she is. Maybe she'll be expecting her own child. Maybe he'll have his braces off.

Seth is too young to grasp how much of life will go by before he sees his niece again.

She too lives far, far away. She is so precious and at such a fun age. We have enjoyed being with her so much. Next time Seth sees her, she will probably hold still for pictures without having to be mesmerized by the paparazzi calling out Princess names. He will be much, much taller.

Life goes by so quickly. Fly carefully little birdies. Be safe.

Sherry, did you have to do that? You made me all mushy and teary-eyed, thinking about my own precious daughter who is 20. I really dread that time and hope she will always live near me.

Seriously, it was a beautiful and very sweet post.

What a very beautiful post! Another one has flown the coop which is sad but also good as it is a sign that they've grown up. Hopefully you'll be seeing more of each other than you are expecting now!

I'm trying to catch up on my blogging hobby today--starting with reading the entries that I've missed on your blog!

This one is absolutely beautiful! I've missed not staying in touch with you through our blogs.

Safe travels, Sherry!

Your post has reminded me at how I felt when my sister get married. She is 12 years older than me, and kind of a mother to me. I've been sulking for several years (I was 7). And now it reminds me that my daughters are grown up, and living far away, in opposite directions. And that each time they come back, I try to look at my best, and wonder whether they'll note I'm getting older...

Yesterday, on Easter, my oldest had to work. It is the first Easter I have missed with him, and I had to sit and think of a couple of years from now when he will move out and I won't see him on lots of the holidays. WWaa.

Oh Sherry that empty nest syndrome really hits home during a wedding. I feel your pain as well as your pride in your family.

I hope you have a safe journey home and I hope A4 has a safe journey through life.

What lovely photos of a special day, Sherry - thank you! You're getting me teary, thinking of the very few times our family has been all together in the last decade.

Not only did some of the little birds fly a couple of thousand miles away, the parents moved the nest to Texas...
