Random ramblings

Why hello there, stranger!

It's been forever and a day or two since I posted, but when the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and there is actually green substance growing in the garden, I find it hard to sit still long enough to post anything. (Maybe a case of Spring ADHD?)

I've been productive though..

The first planting of the year....

The daffodils are in full bloom. Aren't they beautiful? I think Carol would call this one "Egg Yolks On Snow" (or something like that). She's very creative with her daffodil names.

Notice anything wrong with this picture?

Notice how there isn't anything green peeking through the dirt?

Well, that's just sick and wrong because 3 weeks ago (or there abouts..before we travelled to paradise) we planted cold crops in this bed. Lettuce, turnips, radishes, and a tiny bit of spinach.

NONE of it has taken. So....

Is it because

A. I have a brown thumb (mainly because my sister Carol stole all the green thumb genes before I was born)

B. There was too much rain right after we planted so everything rotted.

C. The seeds were bad.

or

D. It's too soon. (But I really don't think that is the case here. They really should be showing SOME signs of life).

Tomorrow we replant if the rain holds off or unless I hear screams echoing through cyberspace telling me not to replant yet (I trust you garden bloggers immensely. I'm depending on you to help me be a successful gardener in spite of my brown thumb).

On a brighter note, Prince Charming bought some new "stuff" for the gazebo.

I don't think Sam has left this spot since.

As you can see, he is now taking his meals outside as well. He only comes in to get a new book upon occasion. Well, and to sleep of course. It does get nippy at night.
He just finished The Door Within series, and is now reading Penrod by Booth Tarkington.

Seth lost his other front tooth finally.

For those of you who have read my blog for awhile, you might remember that Seth feels the need to name his teeth after he loses them.

Meet Bob.

He had another tooth he named Bob as well. But he has an uncle named Bob whom he really likes, so maybe that's why he is focused on that name. Bob watched Victoria while we were travelling, that may be a reason he won the honor of having another tooth named after him. I wonder if Bob thinks it was worth it?

Speaking of puppies......

Here are four tired puppies.

Shhh........We don't want to wake them. They look so comfy.

In our house it's against the law to take a nap without a dog to cuddle.

Well, hugs to you all.

I've missed you this week, but when the wild spring calls, it's against the laws of nature to disobey, don't you think?

Sherry, trust your sister. Ask Carol when to plant. My sisters never ask me and one of them planted okra in January.

I plante the Thursday before St. Patricks Day and they took a while to start coming up, but they are up now, covered to keep the rabbits away. Maybe you could plant in another bed and give that one just a little longer.

Yes, it will be difficult to blog daily with the sun shining and the weeds calling me, daring me to pull them. I will answer each dare..until it gets too hot.

Sherry,

You have a full life - much too full to worry about the posting on the blog!

It was nice to meet Bob.

I can't help you with the gardening dilemma as I have a brown thumb also. Call the expert. Your sister will tell you what went wrong, for sure!

LOL!

Tell me when I can plant my annuals!

I agree.. I've been outside all week. Thank goodness I can type fast and I find writing to come easy or I'd never post!

P.S. Need a laugh? Go read what I just threw up! :-D

Sherry, you are so awesome. Your post just gave me warm fuzzies about spring, kids, animals and LIFE!

Now I'm going to go to bed and try to retain the warm fuzzies as I continue on with taxes in the morning... :) Can't wait to hang with ya when I emerge.

You have so much stuff on your blog, that I am only going to make a comment on one item. If I commented on everything in your blog, I would have enough for a separate post. :)

You said you planted all winter crops. They should have sprouted if the weather wasn't too cole.

You said you "traveled to Paradise. Did these get watered while you were traveling?

Unless the seeds were super old and got wet before you planted them, they should be good.

Good luck on your next attempt.

Ooooooo, your flowers are so beautiful! I can't believe how great your first planter looks.

Looks like to me you still have lots of green left on your thumb.

Hope your weekend is full of sun!

Sherry, sherry, sherry, sherry, sherry... let's not blame the seed, you bought new didn't you? And we know the soil is good. And you had the same weather, more or less that I did, but yet ALL my spring crops have germinated! Give it another week or so, and then blame it on your brown thumb. Then let Sophie replant, she might have a green thumb.

Debi - Carol is a great resource, just a busy resource. Maybe I should make an appointment?

Kathy - maybe we will plant in a different bed and then if the first comes up, oh well, just more cold crops. Good idea.

Lisa - there's something so satisfying in yanking out those weeds - LOL!

Mary - Life is about balance, and I'm afraid I haven't learn to do that very well.

Beth - plant your annuals after your frost free day. Around here it is around Mother's Day. I'll be over to check things out on your blog shortly!

Charmaine - you say the nicest things! We'll get together after Tuesday.

Empty nest - thanks for the input. I'm still not sure what the deal is. It was very, very wet while we were gone. I suspect Prince Charming used left over seeds from last year.

Kristen - it's supposed to be wet and snowy, but that's OK because I have a bedroom to paint. I'd much rather be planting more flowers though!

Carol -- I think P.C. used old seeds, but just to be sure, I'll have Sophie plant the next batch - LOL!

Thanks everyone for all the nice comments and helpful ideas.

Hi Sherry!
Another great post!
Hope that lettuce/spinach bed turns out ok ;)
Seth is sooo cute, what will happen to 'Bob' now??
Your kids are adorable!!

Sam's being just like me. Sometimes, I shut myself off from everyone (not in a rude way hopefully) and just read IN MY CLOSET. That's how desperate I am to have peace. LOL.

Seth is so cute to name his teeth. Bob is one of the random names we would chose to name something like a tooth. Love it!

Like the pic of Sam, Sophie and the dogs sleeping! It reminds me of when we would sleep with kitties before Mom kicked them out of the house. Boo-woo. I believe what you said about fur, but Mom says a little bit of fur hurts her. Sigh...

Can't wait to see you!

Hey! I have missed you, but I understand trying to fit 40 hours of work into 24 hours.

I'm sure the dogs love nap time at your house. They do look comfy.
I'd probably live in the gazebo too!

the whole losing teeth thing creeps me out. I am dreading that time when my kids' teeth start falling out. But hilarious that he names them.

at my house it isn't even a choice anymore if your going to have a dog to cuddle with...She demands it! But she's not spoiled...She's indulged according to my mom.
