The Flood

We were lucky. We only got 4-5 inches this morning.
A lot of water fell today. Our county has been declared a disaster area, and a Weather Emergency was declared. People were asked to stay in their homes. Some areas around us received up to a foot of rain today.

This is the end of our street. The last time this flooded, I was a little girl. But I remember. Still.

I think my kids will remember today's flood for a long, long time.

This is the water rushing over my shoes in the middle of our street. THE MIDDLE. Not at the curb. The middle. It was mid calf at the curb. Not since I was a little girl do I remember the water covering the middle of the road.

Here we are standing on the neighbor's porch watching a car drive down the river. This is the high end of the street where the water wasn't very deep, but you can still see that in the middle the water was ponding.

We were lucky. Our basement is dry. Our children are home safe and sound. All family members are accounted for. All animals are safe.

In the southern part of our county dams broke and a lot of communities are flooded.

Our neighbor's basement is flooded. So are many, many other basements. Many people lost everything they owned today. Some people were stupid and ventured out in the water and almost lost their lives. Thank you to those who risked their lives to save the foolish.

A boring day is a good day. Yes, boring is good.

When you say your prayers tonight, please remember south central Indiana.

Wow, that's a lot of water. I remember that flooding when we were kids and thought we'd never see water like that again. I guess 'never say never'.

If it rains again in the next few days the excess water will not have anywhere to go, so it could flood again. Hopefully it won't rain again for a while. Either it's too wet or too dry, or too cold or too hot. We're never satisfied, even tho there's nothing we can do about it. That's life in Indiana.
No matter where home is in the USA there is weather to contend with. Hurricanes, tornadoes, earth quakes, fires, floods, droughts, you name it & we have it, someplace. So pick which of mother nature's evils you would prefer to live with & I'm sure you can find a nice home there.

Sherry, while I'm also glad you're all safe and unflooded, it's also kind of fun to note that kiddo - you are a natural blogger! When a disaster hits - first things first - run for the camera!

Good luck to all of you in Indiana,

Well, I am glad to hear that you and your family are safe and dry.

weather is freaky this way as well... we had one night where we needed extra blankets- and the following day we hit 97 degrees and have been in a heatwave since- in EARLY JUNE....

I'm freaking out a little about my sugar snap peas- they don't like this kind of heat....
but that is nothing compared to your flooding.

good to read all is well.

Sherry,

I've been thinking of you and everyone in Indiana. Floods are scary. I'm glad you are all OK. I believe the rains have diminished by now?

We have such extreme weather. Regarding rain - it's either feast or famine throughout the country.

Gosh.
